John graduated from the Air Land Emergency Resource Team located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with training in Leadership and Management, specializing in disaster relief. John worked as the assistant to the Dean of Students at Patrick Henry College in northern Virginia, where he was also the head coach for Patrick Henry College Soccer. Prior to working with Shoemaker Financial, John was a brokerage manager and sales support representative for an impaired risk insurance wholesaler.

John has always had an interest in investing, entrepreneurship and other financial matters. He took the initiative to purchase investments for his younger brother when his brother was five years old.

John’s primary focus at Shoemaker is working with families to help them establish, activate and accomplish their financial goals. He also enjoys working with non-profit organizations, having previously established a company to structure and counsel non-profit organizations with his father and a CPA. He is a Registered Representative with Securian Financial Services and holds FINRA Series 7, 63, 65 Registrations and is licensed to sell Life & Health insurance.

Along with these interests John has been active in many short-term mission endeavors. Twice he has been on mission trips to Peru with Covenant Presbyterian Church. With other ministries, he has served on a Navajo reservation in New Mexico, in Latvia and Mexico, as well as numerous tornado clean-up efforts and multiple trips to the Gulf Coast for Katrina disaster recovery work.

John was born and raised in Nashville. His parents, little bother and grandfather live in Nashville as well. He has a large extended family across Tennessee and in Texas. This was John’s third season to volunteer as the head coach for the Middle Tennessee Fire high school soccer team. He has a great love of coaching which transfers to his intense desire to assist families to reach their financial goals.
